Better late then never above are the top 25 Blogs for July.  We have brought on yet another site to help us rank websites and that is Quantcast.  Quantcast has actually gone out and done deals with major websites like Wordpress to provide the most accurate data possible.  If you haven’t quantified your site, go check it out.  We decided to use a mix of Quantcast and Google Ad Planner because it seems that Quantcast is way off on a few sites that they don’t have accurate data for.  They do a great job with subdomains so that allowed us to eliminate Alexa.

Only one site new to the list and that is Hardball Times. We are not sure why they have been left off the list but they have deserved to be on it since we started this site. The biggest thing that stood out to us versus lasts months Top 25 Sports Blog Rankings is that nearly all the Alexa numbers had drastic improvements. We are not sure if this means that Alexa gave more weight to sports sites or that more sports fans have added the Alexa Toolbar.

For those of you who have never seen this rankings before we want to revisit how we compile the rankings. First, through our research we have found that Compete seems to be the most accurate at reporting site traffic when comparing other websites. Alexa is used as a secondary option for sites that have Compete numbers that are close together.

You won’t see sites like Aol Fanhouse or Bugs and Cranks because they are blog networks. You also won’t see sites like Yahoo blogs, True Hoop, and the Sporting Blog because they are major media networks.

As you will notice in January we had a spot for Absolute Unique Visitors but this month we don’t.  Thank you to the people that sent their analytics screen shot but at this point we just don’t have time to send out emails and try to collect the data on a monthly basis. We will try to do it for the year end though.

Now on to the numbers.  The biggest number that jumps out to us is With Leather’s rise from 98987 uniques to 262323 this month.  That is quite a jump though we aren’t ready to crown them the top spot because Deadspin over all still gets more unique monthly visitors.
